GOING IN LOOPS 2011 -
I spent a decade living outside of Finland. Wanting to understand my own country I decided to cycle across it in 2011. The trip turned into over a decade long journey to understand one’s own culture and the slow but unstoppable change within it. Along the way it has dawned to me that this has always been the case.
There is something very comforting about the idea of going in loops. It relieves me from aiming relentlessly at a story with a beginning and an end. Where I am now, someone was before, and others will come after.
If there is anything permanent in society, it is the never-ending change.
YOUTH IN WORLD CULTURES (ongoing)
Currently, social media is the platform to share and connect, immediately and across the globe. Being young and willing to express ideas and orientation is profoundly human. It is ageless. A need to belong to something and express identity are significant hallmarks of youth. Technology has just made access and change ideas and influences much faster.
This project portrays the similarities and differences of the young of today. Also it is an attempt to capture the impact of social media on contemporary youth communities in different parts of the world and the social change it brings.
